On November 30th at 10:02 am, the professor asked the girl out on their first date. Although technically he invited the entire class to the date, the girl knew he was really talking to just her. Naturally, he didn’t really want the rest of the class to tag along, but as a paid employee of the University, he was unfortunately obligated to invite everyone to the afternoon lecture on the War in Afghanistan. Although he did not mention the possibility of dinner then, the girl had no doubt in her mind that his casual invitation to “grab a bite” after the arousing speech would undoubtedly follow. In fact, she imagined that any hesitation on his part or lack of prolonged eye contact or winking, was likely due to his desire to wait until the rest of the class cleared out of the room. Avoiding any third wheels or jealousy was essential. Patience was a virtue and one the girl did not possess, but for once, the girl was able to keep her impatience at bay. The thought of the alone time and dining hall food she would share with the not so secret love of her life would tide the girl over, at least until the 4 o’clock lecture that afternoon.
